Overview
This project presents learning materials that prepare beginner campers for safe and responsible mountaineering. The work includes three connected outputs: a short educational video storyboard, an interactive eLearning storyboard, and a printable learner guide. Together, these materials teach Leave No Trace principles, backpack preparation, clothing layering, and responsible packing habits.

The Needs
Beginner campers often rely on scattered advice from social media or friends. This creates safety risks, poor gear preparation, and environmental damage. This project responds to that gap through clear, beginner-friendly learning materials that support safe and responsible outdoor behavior.
Target Learners
Beginner campers and aspiring mountaineers with limited outdoor experience. Learners need simple guidance, visual examples, and practical checklists that help them prepare before a climb.
Learning Goals
After engaging with the materials, learners will:
• Identify the seven Leave No Trace principles
• Explain how the principles apply to mountaineering practices
• Identify essential gear and clothing layers
• Organize and pack a backpack safely and efficiently
• Apply responsible packing and outdoor habits
Project Structure
This project contains three connected learning assets designed for different learning formats.
Educational Video Storyboard
Leave No Trace Policy in Basic Mountaineering
This output presents a 1–2 minute educational video storyboard designed to introduce the seven Leave No Trace principles. The storyboard includes narration, visual directions, on-screen text, and timing.
Each principle appears as a distinct scene. Narration and on-screen text reinforce key ideas to support retention. Visual details such as tents, cooking stoves, rain gear, and trail scenes make the content concrete and relatable. Sound effects, pacing adjustments, and transitions ensure the short video flows smoothly. The sequence follows Gagné’s events of instruction to guide learners from one principle to the next.
Interactive eLearning Storyboard
Backpacking Essentials & Clothing Layering
This output presents a storyboard for an interactive eLearning module that teaches backpacking essentials and clothing layering.
Course Flow
• Introduction screen sets expectations and welcomes learners
• Backpacking Essentials section uses drag-and-drop sorting activities
• Clothing Layering section uses clickable interactions to explain the three-layer system
• Packing and Organization section presents backpack zones using click-and-reveal tasks
• Responsible Packing section uses a scenario comparing poor and responsible preparation
• Knowledge Check includes five interactive questions with feedback
• Conclusion provides recap and completion badge
Accessibility Features Included
• Keyboard navigation planning
• Captions and alt text planning
• Redo options for interactions
• Clear feedback for quiz responses
Print Learning Material
Learner’s Guide: Backpacking Essentials & Clothing Layering
This printable learner guide supports learners during preparation and real hiking trips.
Content includes:
• Backpack parts and functions
• Backpacking gear checklist
• Clothing layering system with examples
• Backpack packing zones and placement tips
• Responsible packing reminders
• Space for learner notes
The guide serves as a practical field resource that learners can carry and annotate.
My Role
I developed the project across all three formats. My work included:
• Aligning outputs with learning objectives
• Refining AI-generated drafts for clarity and accuracy
• Expanding quiz questions and writing feedback
• Designing interactions and visual directions
• Planning accessibility features
• Connecting all assets into one cohesive learning sequence
Use of AI in the Workflow
AI generated initial drafts for scenes, course flow, and content outlines. I refined the materials, added details, aligned them with learning goals, and verified instructional soundness. AI-supported idea generation and speed, while I remained responsible for validation and final decisions.
Outcome
This project shows how one topic can translate into multiple learning formats. The result is a cohesive set of materials that support beginner campers before, during, and after preparation for a climb.
Reflection
This project strengthened my ability to turn early drafts into structured learning materials. Working across video, eLearning, and print formats improved planning, sequencing, and accessibility decisions. The experience also strengthened my workflow when collaborating with AI tools during instructional design tasks.
